Obesity is a disease in which the natural energy reserve, stored in fatty tissue of humans and other mammals, is increased to a point where it is associated with certain health conditions or increased mortality.
It is characterized by a body mass index or BMI increased to (greater than or equal to 30). It is part of the metabolic syndrome. It is a known risk factor for chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, stroke and some forms of cancer. The evidence suggests that it is a disease with multi-factorial origin i.e. genetic, environmental, psychological and others. Excessive accumulation of fat in the body, general hypertrophy of adipose tissue.

It is a chronic disease with many causes and many complications; obesity is characterized by excess fat in the body and occurs when the body mass index in adults is greater than 30 kg/m2 according to the WHO (World Health Organization for Health)
Obesity is not related to skin color, age, socioeconomic status, gender or
geographic location.
Previously it was considered overweight person as someone who enjoyed good health, however it is now known that obesity has multiple negative consequences for health. It is now accepted that obesity is a causal factor of other diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, dermatological, gastrointestinal, diabetes, osteoporosis, etc.
