From 2003 to 2004, "in children and adolescents aged between 2 and 19 years, 17.1% were overweight and 32.2% of adults 20 years and older were obese. " The prevalence in the United States continues to grow.

In China, the average income increased due to the economic boom, the population of China has recently begun a more sedentary lifestyle and at the same time began to consume more foods rich in calories. From 1991 to 2004 the percentage of adults overweight or obese increased from 12.9% to 27.3%.

Obesity is a public health problem and political life of their prevalence, cost and freight. The prevalence has been increasing continuously decides for two decades.

 

The current environment produces risk factors produced by decreased physical activity and an increase in the consumption of calories. These environmental factors operate on the population to decrease physical activity and increasing consumption of calories.
